The Golf Course - The Vincent Hotel Golf Holidays
Hillside golf club is another amazing layout in the small piece of coastline near Southport. The course shares virtually the same plot of land as Royal Birkdale and Southport & Ainsdale, being separated only by a foot path to Royal Birkdale and by train tracks to S&A. The course holds plenty of prestige having recently hosted the 2019 British Masters and also the final round of The Open qualifier every year since 2014. The front 9 holes are played across relatively flat ground, with the back 9 holes varying in contrast by playing through sand dune valleyed corridors creating wonderful shape to the course. With Greg Norman having declared in a letter to the club after playing there in a PGA tournament in 1982 that “the back 9 holes are the best in Britain”. An 18 hole par 72 links course designed by Fred Hawtree that opened for play in 1911, measuring 7,029 yards when played from the black tees.
Formby golf club is a fantastic championship links course bedded in between pinewoods and rolling sand dunes providing stunning scenery and obstacles on your approach to the green. The course has a great variety of holes with the tricky par 3’s having great acclaim whilst having a reputation for always being in good condition. You can expect to find demanding tee shots, undulating fairways and well guarded greens. An 18 hole, par 72 links course that can measure 7,031 yards when played from the Championship blue tees. Formby has great history having opened in 1884 then being redesigned by Willie Park in 1912 and touched up over the years by some of the biggest names in golf architecture; James Braid (1922), Hawtree & Taylor (1933) and Donald Steel with Frank Pennick & Partners (1980’s).
Southport & Ainsdale golf club is a great championship links course along the fabled golf cost of England. Another classic by James Braid with many interesting holes and stunning views that was established in 1906 and designed to test golfers of all abilities. Accurate and steady shots will reward everyone who plays here, the course is not very long but the fairways are narrow and bordered by sand dunes or the fearsome heather and gorse bushes where chipping back out on to the fairway is often your only option. S&A has twice hosted the Ryder Cup in 1933 and 1937 as well as hosting the Ladies British Open, The British Amateur and final qualifying round for The Open. An 18 hole, par 72 heathland course that measures 6,803 yards from the white tees.
