The Golf Courses - Hotel Guadalmina Golf Break
Real Club de Golf Guadalmina has two golf courses on site, Guadalmina South and Guadalmina North course. The South course is the older and more established of the two, as well as having the reputation of being more difficult. An 18 hole, par 72 links / woodland course designed by Javier Arana in 1959 that measures 6,683 yards. Featuring tree lined fairways and tight greens that requires good accuracy to be able to score well. The North course has more forgiving fairways though more undulating and also features more water hazards to be able to fall foul of. An 18 hole, par 72 links / woodland course measuring 6,303 yards from the back tees that was designed by Folco Nardi in 1973.
Alcaidesa Golf Resort consists of two golf courses, Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland. Alcaidesa Links is the more prestigious course having hosted 2 PGA of Andalusia in 1993 and 1994, 1 PGA of Spain in 1995 and The Ryder Cup Junior Match in 1997. Links is an 18 hole, par 72 links course measuring 6,415 yards that was designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark and included in Golf Worlds list of 20 best links courses on the European continent. Heathland is an 18 hole, par 72 heathland course with wide fairways measuring 6,970 yards that was designed by Dave Thomas and has fantastic views of the Alboran sea.
Almenara golf course has 27 holes of golf to be enjoyed from three loops of 9 holes; Los Lagos, Los Pinos and Los Alcornoques. Each loop of 9 holes has its own individual set of characteristics. Los Lagos is a par 36 measuring 3,398 yards from the white tees that has several water hazards to contend with. Whilst Los Pinos is a par 36 measuring 3,456 yard from the white tees that has pine tree lined fairways and is perhaps the narrowest of the three. Los Alcornoques is a par 36 that measures 3,221 yards from the white tees and is defined by the corn oak trees around the course.
Atalaya Park has two golf courses on site; Atalaya Old & Atalaya New. Old is an 18 hole, par 72 parkland course measuring 6,717 yards that was designed by Bernard Von Limburger. A course that features elevated putting surfaces which can be tricky to deal with. The fairways are relatively generous though lined by trees with strategically placed bunkers. New is an 18 hole, par 72 parkland course measuring 5,601 yards that was designed by Paul Krings and offers some great views of the coast. Though this course is the shorter of the two it can still be an exciting challenge for players of all abilities.
El Paraiso golf course is a design by the world renowned legend Gary Player in 1973. El Paraiso was designed like all Gary Player master pieces, to be fun and challenging for pro's and amateurs alike. A well established course in the Costa del Golf that has many repeat visitors. With such a great looking course it is easy to see why, well manicured fairways framed by palm trees and rolling streams. An 18 hole, par 71 parkland course measuring 6,705 yards from the championship tees.
Los Naranjos is a must play championship golf course in the Marbella area. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior in 1977 around the same time as he was designing other masterpieces in the area such as Valderrama and Mijas. He took full advantage of the local environment to wind the course peacefully through the orange groves which lends its name to the course. The idea was to build a long course with generous fairways and extensive greens that could hold international tournaments whilst still being fun for the average golfer. The front 9 holes allows you some time to warm up with wider fairways before the surrounding trees become a bit closer during the back 9. An 18 hole, par 72 parkland course that can measure up to 7,179 yards.
Rio Real golf course resides in a stunning valley in between the mountains and the sea, when combined with the well manicured fairways and great design of the course really provides some mesmerising holes of golf. An 18 hole, par 72 parkland course designed by Javier Arana in 1965 measuring 6,744 yards. The course offers a gentle rolling terrain with plenty of palm trees and large quality greens. The front 9 can be seen as a little tight when compared to the back 9 where the course really opens up. The course and facilities are impeccably managed and a real joy to play. For golf groups the 13th hole is a good hole to play the longest drive, with the par 3 14th hole great for nearest to the pin.
Santa Clara is a design by Enrique Canales Busquets which opened for play in 1998 and was rewarded for all the hard work soon after in 2003 when the course held the PGA Spanish Championship. A huge honour for a new course. The course is relatively flat with wide fairways and large though undulating greens, the well placed bunkers pose a constant threat to any errant golf balls. An 18 hole, par 71 parkland course measuring 6,426 yards from the back tees that has been designed to make the most of the natural flora and fauna.
Valle Romano golf course is a design by Cabell Robinson that caters for players of all abilities, with each hole having 5 different tee positions to ensure everyone can make the course as challenging or less difficult as necessary. There are some well positioned bunkers to contend with and the odd lake around the course waiting to catch any stray balls. The greens are large giving you a good target to aim at and there are some stunning views towards the sea to be enjoyed. An 18 hole, par 72 parkland course measuring 6,969 yards from the white tees.
